The Confident Individual Changes the World

I just loved this when I read it this morning.  I believe in this. I believe in each child holding his or her own position in this beautiful classroom we call community!  I can't wait to meet them and learn who they are!

Over two thousand years ago, the mathematician Archimedes said, “Give me a place to stand and I’ll move the world.” Taking a stand is a way of living and being that draws on a place within yourself that is at the very heart of who you are. When you take a stand you find your place in the universe, and you have the capacity to move the world.

Getting Ready!

Welcome to Ms. Pittel's classroom!

I may currently be at the helm but there are many things guiding this ship!
What fun awaits!

In truth, the weeks have been lagging on as I sit and await the first day of school.  It is a late start this year, and all my indicators are here! Cooler mornings, geese flying overhead, the ripening of service berries, the need for a sweater in the evenings.  All these events provide me the timing to begin the rituals of starting school each year.  Eagerly, I have waited the arrival of such events and then, this year, I keep waiting and waiting and waiting for the first yellow school buses to make their routes.  But that hasn't stopped me from preparing and planning.  Students names have permeated my days as I anticipate getting to know each of them.  The changes in curriculum and district initiatives give me road maps on how I will shape this year.  The routines and protocols that I have established over the past 18 years take their own shape and form unique to this year's needs, where I am as an individual, and will eventually take on life when the passions and individuality of each child and of our classroom community begin to permeate each day.  Yes, indeed, this year has started beautifully even before it has started.

I look forward to meeting each of you at the Open House and invite you to stop in and visit in the first weeks of school.  Look on my website for information regarding the year.  But look here, on our blog, for the latest updates about our days!

A couple of things that I look forward to at the beginning of the year:

This classroom's mascot is the Yeti. We are the YETIS! You don't know what that means...YET(I) but stay tuned!!

Lessons from Geese: What do you already know about these birds flying south for the winter?

We will start the year off with the Global Cardboard Challenge!

Please watch these videos with your child before the first day of school and begin to collect items you may want to use in your own creation that you make with a team!  I have big boxes already!
